EvidenceToPrograms.com and Evidence-Based Programming for Seniors

Congratulations to H. Richard McGhee, Director of the Area Agency on Aging, and his co-authors for the publication of their article, EvidenceToPrograms.com: A Toolkit to Support Evidenced-based Programming for Seniors in Frontiers in Public Health.

Frontiers in Public Health is a very prestigious, peer-reviewed journal aimed at researchers and practitioners from many disciplines in the broad arena of public health.  The article, written by Dr. Alan B. Stevens, Shannon B. Coleman, H. Richard McGhee, and Dr. Marcia G. Ory, describes a new web-based toolkit that can be used by community-based organizations to guide them in their selection, implementation and evaluation of evidence-based programs that promote healthy behaviors in seniors and proper self-management of their health conditions.

The development of this toolkit spanned 18 months and features an inter-active, user-friendly web site.  Each section of the toolkit includes questions, examples, and resources to help organizations anticipate and address barriers to implementing and maintaining an evidence-based program.  Most importantly, the toolkit includes a section on maintaining the selected program despite the difficulties in funding allocations, availability of resources, and changing demographics.
