Course Content
This course focuses on practical application of existing available technology
for the containment and recovery of spilled oil in inland freshwater
environments, and protection of adjoining shorelines. Emphasis areas are on
realistic capabilities and limitations of equipment, optimization of
equipment performance using sound employment tactics, and safety
considerations associated with waterside and waterborne operations.
Target Audience/Discipline
Those individuals assigned to a HazMat Response Team, fire fighters and
other local/state officials who might respond to a hazardous material incident
on a large body of freshwater.
Eligibility
Students must be Public Sector Employees or Volunteers. Eligible individuals
must be employed by or serve within a political subdivision, such as a county,
municipality, city, town, township, local public authority, school district,
special district, intrastate district, council of governments (whether
incorporated as a nonprofit corporation under state law or not), any other
regional or intrastate government entity, or any agency or instrumentality of
a local government. Private sector, federal, non-profit, and not-for-profit
employees may not be eligible for these classes unless they also volunteer in
a public sector position. Volunteers must apply through their respective
public sector agencies. This program is open to Texas residents only.
Cost
There is no cost to attend TDEM-sponsored HAZMAT training.
