What the course teaches
- How to reduce the intensity of an encounter with a suspect
- How to use tactical de-escalation to gain voluntary compliance
- How to limit the use of force in public interactions
- How to respond to people who are behaving erratically
- Officers with a basic proficiency certificate every 48 months
- Officers who want to obtain an Intermediate or Advanced proficiency certificate
- Out of state officers who need a Texas Peace Officer’s license

The course is required by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE).
Instructed by: Lieutenant Michael De Leon possesses over 16 years of experience as a Texas Peace Officer serving as both a Patrol Officer and Deputy Constable for Travis County, Texas. Over the years, he has consistently strived to enhance his skills and qualifications, obtaining certifications as a Mental Health Officer and certified Crisis/Hostage Negotiator. His achievements include serving in various capacities, including Negotiator, Training Coordinator, and Team Commander in a joint metro SWAT team. He holds several notable certifications, including an Associate degree in Criminal Justice, Master Peace Officer proficiency, Advanced Instructor, and Instructor for De-Escalation.
