Many older or disabled persons cannot remain at home without the support and care received from family and friends. The Central Texas Council of Government’s Area Agency on Aging has released their new Family-Caregiver Workshop schedules for the 2015-2016 season. The two main workshops, Caring for a Person at Home and Caring for a Person with Dementia, are taught using the Schmieding Method which emphasizes the importance of the learning environment. It is our belief that students who learn in a positive, supportive learning environment develop a higher level of confidence and are more competent performing care in an individual’s home. This is why our learning laboratory emulates a realistic home-like environment. Additionally, the Schmieding Method is not just about what we teach, or where we teach, it is also about how we teach. Our Instructors select teaching strategies that integrate the values of integrity, dignity and respect coupled with a variety of interactive teaching methods to enhance the learning experience. All workshops are a combination of multi-media presentations and hands-on practical experience.
TUITION: For a limited time, there will be no charge for attending these workshops. The normal tuition fee is $35 which allows two persons to attend, and includes one caregiver manual, community resource handouts, and a certificate of completion. RESERVATIONS ARE REQUIRED.
