With the recent passage of Texas Senate Bill 11, concealed handgun license holders will now be allowed to carry their handguns on college campuses. As a result, there are bound to be questions about procedures from university officials, law enforcement entities, and the general public. Therefore, the Central Texas College Police Department and the Texas A&M Central Texas Police Department, in collaboration with the Central Texas Council of Governments are offering a free training forum on Thursday, January 21, 2016 in Building 156, the Anderson Campus Center, on the campus of Central Texas College from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.
Topics to be covered are:
- The effects that “Campus Carry” will have on law enforcement
- College policy development
- Determining “gun free zones” on campus (including collegiate sporting events)
- Dos and Don’ts regarding conceal carry license holder rights
- Faculty anxiety
- Handling students in crisis
- On-campus weapons storage
- Accidental discharges
- Reciprocal handgun licenses
- Community teaching sites
